Peer review over time has helped me improve my paragraphs tremendously by just having someone other than myself look at my work. But also, the comments that I leave on others work have meant more to me and I’m not just focusing on what they spelt wrong I’m focused on paragraph and essay structure.

(peer review from empathy essay)
(Revised paragraph after peer review on empathy essay)

My partner helped me realize that I need more of my thoughts into my writing while incorporating more of the author’s quotes to support my thoughts, not to write the piece itself. By imputing more of my opinion of the subject of empathy, it helps strengthen my writing while giving me credibility in the readers’ eyes. Although this comment may not seem substantial, to me it is because it’s hard for me to put more of my beliefs in a text than it is for me to input quotes, so with this comment it helped me see where I was missing personal beliefs and helped me strengthen the essay overall.

Peer review wasnt just about recieving comments, it was also about giving good constructive feedback.

After this peer review, not only do I spark new ideas for my own essay, but I also start to pick up on key elements that I am missing. While working with peer review I didn’t know what to leave as an end comment at first, but as the year went on, I realised that it was more than okay to give good constructive critisism, its actually needed.

In all, peer review is not something that I didn’t like doing, it was something that actually taught me more, it was something that made me feel more confident in my writings as it helped me see what I was missing and how I was doing. Peer review made me more confident in my own writing.
